                          | Marty's L.A. show reviewed
Net journalist and disc jockey Karen Braun had this to say about Marty's show at the Troubador in L.A. See pix of this show in the "Marty in Action" section of the gallery.

MARTY FRIEDMAN has always been one of my favorite live
guitar players, and I used to see
him play live when he was in Cacophony with Jason
Becker which was a very exciting fun band.
I always liked his solo instrumentals albums, and he
 performed these special for this
tour, which is his first tour featuring them so I was
very excited. Marty had lots of
stage presence with his long curly hair moving his
head around his nice healthy body.
Although most of the music came from his latest "Music
for Speeding" CD, he started out with "Anvils" from
"Dragon's Kiss" CD. He played it very well with lots
of energy. The whole band played very well together
and very clear and professional sounding, and they
 sound very
balanced with Marty's playing. Next was some new
material like "Gimme A Dose", "Fuel Injection
Stingray", "Ripped", and my favorite of the evening
"Cheer Girl Rampage" with its energetic
rhythm and interesting leads. Although they did not
 play the electronic futuristic sounds
like on the new CD, the music still had a very
 positive energetic uplifting feeling which
made the whole crowd that packed the place come to
life and be friendly to those near them.
Marty made a funny joke that nobody is standing like
this. Then Marty stands straight with his arms folded
across his body looking serious like the guys in the
 early LA Cacophony audience did.
Everyone laughed. Since the Troubadour is near the gay
neighborhood, he asked if any guys
like girls, and some guys put their hands up. He had
fun talking like this. He played a
guitar ballad "Lust for Life" a romatic song for when
you are alone with your girlfriend.
It was very melodic with very harmonic sounds that
would put you in the mood. "0-7-2" was
a short classical piece, which added a good variety. I
hope he does more songs like this
in the future. Everyone went totally crazy during
 "Dragon Mistress" an early song.
Marty and guitar player RON JARZOMBEK played leads
together, and it was great and totally
wild. Ron played in a very wild, creative, and
innovative manner with a wild bright green
hand painted guitar that he built from scratch.
For the encore they played "Deuce" with the bass
player on vocals. I felt very good
for days afterwards, and I highly recommend seeing
Marty if he is on tour near you.
