Title : whammy bar? difficult music

  QUESTION:

Hey Marty! I'm a relative guitar newbie..only 12 months into it, but I'm loving it. I have four questions for you: 1)I play a low-end Jackson Warrior, and while I like it, it doesn't have a whammy bar. How important do you think a whammy-bar is? Will I be depriving my playing of something significant if I don't learn how to use one? 2)I'm very heavily into Metallica stuff. I've read before that you respect them for the success they've had. Personally, I think James Hetfield writes the best riffs of any guitarist in the world, and his rhythm playing is really tight! What's your opinion of him? I mean musically, and not just stating the obvious fact that he's successful. :) 3)I LOVE your solo stuff, and Jason Becker's Perpetual Burn as well. Now that sort of music is really difficult guitar playing (and even though you have often downplayed the importance of techniques like sweep-picking), there's plenty of ultra-challenging stuff on it. I'm often frustrated that I'll never be able to get crazy fast stuff(like say Saturation Point, or Perpetual Burn, the song) down unless I practice 10 hrs a day( which I don't have, what with university and all)! What should I do? 4)Did you ever learn/play live the song Altitudes by Jason Becker? I just thought that since we can't have him, it'd be cool to see you pulling of that awesome song. Cheers, and lots of love and respect!
