  QUESTION:

Dear Mr Friedman. Can you help me. I own a jcm800 head and quads and various boss effects pedals. However lately I've been doing some recording and have found having such a big rig to be a big pain in the *$@. The sound is not up to standard and I always have to turn it up loud as hell to get a good rock distortion. I've tried lots of preamps and found they sound better at low volume including the roland vf-1. (which sounded great) but is there anything that you may recomend thats good for live and studio that is 24bit? and that can have a midi foot controller? or should i keep what I've got and lower the amps watt? (it's a 50w) (Gear costs so much and it's important to find whats best suited first time, otherwise it will be an expensive mistake)
